The Reverend Robert Newton

BA (Hons) Dip Ed Cert Theol

Robert Newton was born in Cardiff, Wales and educated at the Bishop of Llandaff School, University of Manchester and St Stephen's House Oxford. He was ordained in 1989 in the Diocese of Hereford in the UK where he served as assistant curate in the parish of Ludlow. He has served as an assistant priest and a University chaplain as well as working in Independent Church Schools. Since 2000 he has served as Rector of Glenelg - Wannon (Coleraine/Casterton) and Archdeacon of Ballarat. Robert came to Christ Church Brunswick in October 2007 and has a wife, Jane and daughter, Darcey.

The Right Reverend James Grant

James Grant was born at Red Cliffs, Victoria, educated in Scotland and Geelong Grammar. He was ordained in 1960 and consecrated as a Bishop in 1970. He was the Chairman of the Brotherhood of St Laurence from 1972 - 1987. From 1985 - 1989 he was the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral. In 1994 he was awarded the Order of Australia for services to the Church. He is married to Rowena Armstrong QC.

Drew was born in Adelaide and did his initial study at Flinders University of South Australia and St Barnabas' College. Later he studied at La Trobe University and Australian Catholic University. He has served in the dioceses of Melbourne, Ballarat and North Queensland in parishes, schools and universities. His academic interests include appreciating the potential of different structures of consciousness at work in the faith life of people, theology in an ecologically challenged age, theology after the Holocaust and various forms of progressive theology in relation to the catholic tradition. His unhealthy love of the Geelong Football Club has finally been rewarded by the winning of the 2009 AFL Premiership. Naomi is an active social worker with experience in working with people who are homeless and have mental illness. She has a deep love of music and is rather quiet about being a slightly disinterested Melbourne Football Club follower.

The Reverend Philip Burgess

A chinese dragonPhilip Burgess was born in Willaura,  educated Ballarat Grammar School and St John’s College, Morpeth. He was ordained Deacon in 1954 and  Priest in 1955. He served in the parishes of Willaura, Tallangatta, Mansfield, Wodonga, Belmont and Ballarat. In 1971 – 1976 he was Archdeacon of Wangarratta and in  1986-1987 Rural Dean of Ballarat. He has served as Associate Priest at Christ Church Brunswick since 1994. He is married to Marilyn, who is one of the organists at Christ Church.

A chinese dragonRobert Holland is an assistant priest at Christ Church. He has worked with the Brotherhood of St Laurence and has been vicar of several parishes, including St Philip's West Heidelberg. He is married to Susan and recently celebrated 40 years or ordination.
